Org Chart Maker
Create org charts visually: add people with name, title and department; auto-color by department; switch between vertical (top-down) and horizontal layout; collapse subtrees; zoom; and export as SVG, PNG or JSON. Re-import the JSON later to continue editing — no signup, no upload.

How to use this org chart maker
- Click + Add top-level for the first person, or click an existing node and use + Add report.
- Fill in name, title and department. Departments auto-pick a color, which you can override.
- Drag a node by changing its 'Reports to' selector — cycles are prevented automatically.
- Use the +/− button on a node to collapse or expand its subtree. Toggle layout vertical/horizontal.
- Export SVG (vector), PNG (image) or JSON (re-importable). Pinch/zoom and pan on mobile.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move someone under a different manager?
Yes — open the person and change Reports to. The chart re-lays out automatically and prevents cycles (you can't make someone report to one of their own reports).
Will the colors stay consistent?
Each unique department gets a color automatically. You can override it on any person — same department names share the same color.
When should I use a matrix org structure instead of a tree?
When people genuinely report to two managers — typically a functional lead (e.g. engineering) and a product/project lead. A flat tree forces you to pick one, which misrepresents the reality. This tool draws single-parent trees. For matrix orgs, use a tree per dimension (one functional, one project) and link them in a separate document.
