Frequently asked questions
Does it preserve aspect ratio?
Yes — by default. In 'exact dimension' mode you can unlock aspect ratio if you need a specific width and height (the image will stretch).
Can it upscale (make images larger)?
Yes, but quality won't improve — it only stretches the existing pixels with high-quality bicubic resampling. For best results, downscale only.
What's the best output format?
Keep the original format unless you need smaller files — then choose WebP for the best size/quality trade-off, or JPG for universal support.
Why does my upscaled image look soft or blurry?
Upscaling can't invent detail that wasn't captured. Canvas uses bicubic resampling, which smooths the existing pixels — fine for going from 800×600 to 1200×900, but obvious past 2× scale. For aggressive upscaling, look at AI super-resolution tools (Topaz, Real-ESRGAN) instead.
